Traffic was disrupted in Manila on Thursday as heavy monsoon rains exacerbated by several storms caused severe flooding in the capital area.
Footage shows residents making their ways through knee-deep floodwaters while cars could be seen attempting to navigate submerged streets and junctions. Authorities declared several areas impassible including main roads such as Blumentritt Street, Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard, Hippodromo and parts of Tayuman Street, among others.
The monsoon rain has been amplified by typhoon ‘Goring’ and approaching storm ‘Hanna’, leading to government offices suspending their work and classes being called off in Metro Manila including parts of Manila, Pasay City and Quezon City.
More than 300,000 people across the country were affected by the extreme weather according to the The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
