Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Thursday for a bilateral meeting.
The pair discussed the implementation of agreements reached between the countries during a trip of President Ebrahim Raisi to Damascus.
Amir-Abdollahian expressed Itan’s commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and pledged Tehran’s assistance in fighting terrorism in the region. He also welcomed the resumption of Syria’s presence in the Arab League and the improvement of Syrian-Arab relations. In turn, Assad congratulated Tehran with joining BRICS, adding the development shows a ‘changing’ world.
Earlier this month, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad met with the Iranian president in Tehran where Raisi said he hoped for an extended bilateral co-operation between the countries.
