« Locals and tourists flocked to Tishreen Park in Damascus on Thursday, for the second day of the annual International Flower Show in Damascus.
« This fair witnessed remarkable participation in terms of quality and quantity, especially after the notable recovery in Syria, » said Chairman of Plant Nurseries and Flowers in Syria, Mohammed Shabani.
“Despite the siege and inability to properly import the exhibits, this participation acts as siege-breaker and a message of love and authenticity to Syria and promotes the exchange of experiences among participants, » he added.
Footage shows the colourful blooms and plants on display, with people seen exploring and taking stock of the large variety on offer.
« I love flowers and gardening. I will definitely buy some new types, » said one visitor, Hazar.
According to organisers, 140 domestic and foreign companies took part. Abdul Moneim Nasset al-Issawi, assistant director of Media Relations of Baghdad Municipality, said his own country’s participation ‘serves as a message of love, peace, and solidarity with our Syrian brothers during these hard times’.
« This has been very useful for us to transfer the Syrian experience to Baghdad where we held Baghdad Flower Fair and Baghdad International Flower Festival since 2009 until now. This Festival was attended by many brotherly and friendly nations, including Syria, » he added.
Around 100 producers including expert gardeners, honey-makers and those specialising in medicinal plants, were also included.
“I came here to take part in the fair, » added one of the vendors, Anjad. « My work involves importing and exporting flowers between Iran and Syria. This fair is well-organised, and the people here are very friendly.”
The International Flower Show 2023 started on August 30 and continues until September 9. »
