Berdyansk and Lugansk celebrate start of school year

« School assemblies were held in schools in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) and the Zaporozhye region on Friday, to mark the Day of Knowledge (beginning of school year).
Footage shows children in uniforms with flowers listening to the Russian national anthem. The first-graders recited poems and took part in dance performances before the first school bell rang.
Acting head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik attended a ceremonial assembly at Lugansk Linguistics High School No. 36 named after Georgy Zhukov. In his Telegram channel, he thanked Lugansk’s sister cities for their help in reconstructing the schools.
« Thanks to the hard work of Russian builders, dozens of schools and kindergartens in towns and districts of the republic have been restored. With the help of the sponsor regions, the equipment of educational institutions in the Lugansk region is being upgraded. On the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, the latest textbooks and hundreds of thousands of volumes of literature have been delivered to school libraries », wrote Pasechnik.
LPR Minister of Education and Science Ivan Kusov informed that new school year celebrations were organized in 490 schools in the region.
Head of Berdyansk School No.1 Tatiana Kubinskaia reported that the school accepted 47 first-graders, which was ‘three more pupils than last year’.
Acting governor of Zaporozhye region Yevgeny Balitsky reported in his Telegram channel that ‘this year more than 40 thousand pupils will start their education in the schools of Zaporozhye region’, including three thousand first-graders.
On September 30, 2022, President Vladimir Putin agreed to sign documents allowing the accession of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), as well as the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye, to the Russian Federation.
According to Moscow, the move followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.
Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.
