« Activist congregated by the ‘Nuremberg Peace Forum’ organisation marched through the centre of Nuremberg on Friday to claim against the war between Russia and Ukraine and reject German arms deliveries on Anti-war Day.
The footage show protesters marching with banners reading messages like ‘Protest voters against the right! For peace! For democracy!’ and ‘We don’t die for their wars!’.
« With the tanks and arms deliveries to the Ukraine, Germany is now involved in this war », a protester said.
« Without NATO there would be no war in Ukraine today and without NATO’s eastward expansion, there would be no Russian soldiers in Ukraine either », commented Jurgen Rose, a former Lieutenant Colonel in the German armed forces who attended the rally.
« The main responsibility for the war in Ukraine does not lie on the Russian side, but on the NATO side », Rose added.
In the past months, several protests have been held across Germany, condemning the country’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict through the shipment of weapons to Kiev.
In mid-May, Germany announced a €2.7 billion ($2.9 billion) military aid package to Ukraine, marking its largest package since the start of the military offensive.
Russia launched its military action in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
