« Railway staff from 14 different train operating companies went on strike on Saturday after rail bosses refused to recognise the RMT London union’s roadmap letter.
Footage shows passengers passing through, queuing and waiting at Euston, King’s Cross, Liverpool and St Pancras railway stations during today’s strike.
According to local media, 20,000 members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) have been striking for months seeking an agreement on job security, working conditions and payment.
« The arrogance of the Tory government knows no bounds », said RMT General Secretary, Mick Lynch. « Our members are sick and tired of being treated with contempt by the government and the train operating companies. RMT has laid out a comprehensive framework on how we can reach a negotiated settlement and is prepared to meet at any time, 24/7. It is now up to ministers to break the deadlock and allow rail bosses to put forward a revised offer », he added.
The RMT wrote to the Rail Delivery Group a roadmap with a set of principles that could pave the way for a negotiated solution to the dispute. However, the rail bosses refused to acknowledge receipt of the letter and told the media that they had rejected it »
