« Thousands attended a political rally in Mexico City on Sunday as Mexican Senator Xochitl Galvez announced that she will lead the ‘Frente Amplo por Mexico’ (‘Broad Front for Mexico’) coalition in the country’s presidential election in 2024, becoming the first candidate for the poll.
Footage shows hundreds of people gathered with flags, balloons, signs, and chanting ‘I’m for Xochitl’.
« We are going to open the doors of the National Palace. That door has been closed for five years. They closed it with lies, insults, and hate. They closed it for all those who did not think like them. They closed it not only to me but to you and to millions of Mexicans, but the citizens are going to reopen that door. We will open it with the truth; we will open it with hope because hope has already changed hands, and now our Mexico deserves more, » declared Galvez during her speech.
Josefina Vazquez Mota, another Mexican senator and member of the country’s political coalition, said that this Sunday’s event is the proof that society and political parties are capable of being united when there is a superior interest and when ‘clean and transparent processes’ take place.
« Today the Angel of Independence takes us to a historical event in the life of the country and it is the demonstration that not only this is possible but even more, and so we will arrive with Xochitl Galvez at the National Palace, » Mota stated.
According to local media reports, the National Action Party (PAN), the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), and the Pink Tide are the groups that form the coalition led by Galvez for the 2024 presidential election.
It is also reported that recent polls in Mexico suggest that Mexican President Andres Obrador’s governing party seeks a female candidate to succeed him in power. »
