« EU’s foreign policy commissioner Josep Borrell confirmed on Tuesday that a Swedish national working for the EU has been detained in Iran for 500 days, during a press conference in Cadiz.
Borrell assured that “the European institutions in close coordination with the Swedish authorities, which have the full responsibility of consular protection, and with his family, have been pushing the Iranian authorities to release him.”
The Swedish government said on Monday that a Swedish citizen was arbitrarily detained in Iran last year, but didn’t identify him.
Today Borrell acknowledged his detention and named him as Johan Floderus, a Swedish man in his 30s.
Nasser Kanaani, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, told the semi-official Fars news agency that he had no information on the case. »
