« German Chancellor Olaf Scholz inaugurated the International Automobile Exhibition (IAA) in Munich on Tuesday with accolades for the innovative prowess of German car manufacturers and suppliers. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Scholz emphasised the unquestionable competitiveness of the German auto industry.
“Supporting such investments is a conscious strengthening of our technological sovereignty and Germany as an automotive location. With this money, we secure a technological lead and good future-oriented jobs. We will continue to do so, just as our global competitors are doing,” Chancellor Scholz remarked.
In a lighthearted moment, the Chancellor shared a personal anecdote, saying that « the weekend showed me again personally that jogging is nice for some stretches, but it’s better to go by car.” Scholz, who suffered a minor injury while jogging, now sports a black eye patch.
Hildegard Muller, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), echoed the Chancellor’s sentiments during her address.
« They make the mobility of the future better, safer, and more comfortable for all of us, » Muller said, expressing optimism about the industry’s commitment to enhancing future mobility.
She further highlighted the theme of this year’s IAA Mobility event, stating that « the IAA Mobility takes place under the motto ‘Experience Connected Mobility.’ This is more than a headline; this is a promise, » emphasising the focus on the interconnectedness and technological advancements in the automotive sector.
Following the opening ceremony, Chancellor Scholz embarked on a two-hour tour of the exhibition halls, where he had the opportunity to witness firsthand the cutting-edge projects and innovations of German car manufacturers and suppliers, reaffirming the nation’s dedication to shaping the future of mobility. »
