Thousands take to streets of Tehran to commemorate Arbaeen

« Thousands of Iranian worshippers marched through the streets of Tehran on Wednesday, as part of the annual observance of Arbaeen.
Footage shows participants marching in procession through the city’s streets.
Mohammad Salami, Commander in Chief of IRGC who was participating in the procession. said that « this amount of crowd is rooted to the heart. It is moving Toward Imam Hossein and this wave [of people who love Imam Hossein] won’t end. »
The Arbaeen is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the seventh-century. Hussein is said to be the third Shia Imam and the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson. The main pilgrimage takes place in Karbala, Iraq, for which nearly 2 million visas were issued to Iranian visitors alone in 2018. »
