« The Spokesperson to the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Vincent Magwenya stated that Africa ‘has now a seat at the table » after the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 at the annual summit in New Delhi on Saturday.
« What is important to us is that the continent now has a seat on the table and issues that impact the continent will now be discussed and approached with the full participation of the African continent, » Magwenya told reporters.
« The various social and economic dynamics of the different smaller countries that are not even part of the G20 but that will now have a voice. So those issues, issues of international cooperation, and security for example, issues that are key for us as the African continent as you know, we still have a fair amount of conflicts that now are trying to undermine our developmental agenda as the continent. So we will be seeking more cooperation on those issues and we will be advocating more strongly for developed countries, » he continued.
The comments came after the group of the world’s 20 leading economies welcomed the African Union as a permanent member at the G20 Summit hosted by India. »
