« Ding Ding the giant panda was seen asleep with her cub in an enclosure at the Moscow Zoo on Saturday.
Footage released by the Moscow Zoo shows Ding Ding sleeping, the cub hidden in her fur. The panda then wakes, shifts to a more comfortable position to fall asleep again.
Moscow Zoo General Director Svetlana Akulova said the baby panda is growing steadily.
« Our baby gains about 30 grams every day. His calculated weight should be about 400 grams now. He resembles his mother more and more, » remarked Akulova in her Telegram channel.
Earlier, the zoo’s press service stated that the birth of a panda cub was an event ‘unique both for the nation and the entire global environmental community’.
Russia’s first giant panda cub was born on August 30, while parents Ding Ding and Ruyi were brought to Moscow from Beijing in 2019. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping both attended the opening ceremony of the ‘China Fauna’ pavilion at the Moscow Zoo.
In the wild, giant pandas are found exclusively in China, although many are leased to other countries. Ding Ding and Ruyi were transferred to the zoo as part of a scientific programme for the preservation and breeding of the rare species.
