« The new Saudi Ambassador to Tehran, Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi, presented his credentials to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in Tehran Sunday.
Last Tuesday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that « the appointed Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Iran, Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi, arrived in Tehran to commence his duties. »
The statement quoted Ambassador Al-Anzi as saying upon his arrival, « The directives of the Saudi leadership emphasize the importance of strengthening relations, intensifying communication, and meetings between the Kingdom and Iran, and moving them towards broader horizons. »
Ambassador Al-Anzi’s appointment aims to restore diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. In a reciprocal move, Iran also sent Ambassador Alireza Enayati to Riyadh, marking a step toward repairing their diplomatic ties.
After a gap of seven years without formal ties, China played a key role in March to help Riyadh and Tehran restore their diplomatic relations.
Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic relations with Iran after protesters attacked its diplomatic mission in Tehran, following Riyadh’s execution of a famous Shia cleric. »
