According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim left for Russia with a delegation of key party officials.
On Monday, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for talks within the next few days.
“It will be a full-blown visit, with talks between the two delegations, and afterwards, if need be, the leaders will continue to communicate one-on-one. Also, a formal dinner is planned on behalf of the president of Russia in honour of the North Korean guest, » he said during an interview.
According to reports, the North Korean leader will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 13 in Vladivostok as the city hosts the Eastern Economic Forum.
