« Climate activists from the group ‘Last Generation’ blocked a street in Berlin on Monday as part of their « action week » protest. The demonstrators criticized the German government for what they perceive as a lack of a comprehensive climate plan.
Footage shows angry residents attempting to take down the banners, while others are trying to remove the protesters who have either sat down or glued themselves to the middle of the street.
They called on politicians to devise a plan to achieve the 1.5-degree target, which was established as part of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. This target, proposed by climate experts and scientists, aims to mitigate the most severe consequences of global warming.
According to Berlin police, Last Generation blocked streets in 21 places across the German capital during the day.
On Sunday, the activists sprayed the Brandenburg Gate with orange paint, resulting in several arrests. »
