« South Korea’s leading opposition figure, Lee Jae-myung, has been hospitalised in Seoul on Monday after 19 days of hunger strike.
Footage captured the moment emergency teams rushed the 58-year-old leader of the Democratic Party from his office to an awaiting ambulance. Later, medical workers were seen transporting Lee on a stretcher from Green Hospital to the ambulance before it departed the medical centre.
South Korean prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for him over corruption allegations, hours after he was transferred to hospital.
Democratic Party’s officials said Lee had been found nearly unconscious in his office, his blood sugar levels having fallen sharply.
Ever since his defeat in the 2022 presidential election, Lee Jae-myung has been embroiled in a series of investigations, bringing his political career under scrutiny. »
