Ukraine, Sahel among top topics at UN General Assembly – Borrell at EU FMs meeting in New York

« Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, said on Monday ahead of the « Day of Peace » ministerial meeting that Ukraine and the political crisis in Africa will be among the main topics for discussion during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Borrell said that in the coming days, during meetings with 133 partners, « climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the reform of the international financial architecture, and certainly Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine will be discussed. »
Borrell especially noted that Africa’s political crises will be discussed.
« We will have a strategic discussion about what is going on there, especially after the coup d’etat in Niger and we will decide which lines to take in the future, in particular with respect to our military activities, military training and our budget support, » Borrell commented.
Borrell said a few days ago that the Sahel remains an area of strategic interest for the European Union. »
