Ukraine, Sahel to top agenda EU’s UN General Assembly agenda – Borrell at FMs meeting in New York

« Ukraine and the political crisis in Africa will be among the European Unions’s main topics during the UN General Assembly, the bloc’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said at a EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New York on Monday.
Borrell stated that in the coming days, during meetings with 133 partners, « climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the reform of the international financial architecture, and certainly Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine will be discussed. »
He continued to say that Africa’s political crises in the Sahel, including the military coup in Niger will be discussed.
« We will have a strategic discussion about what is going on there, especially after the coup d’etat in Niger and we will decide which lines to take in the future, in particular with respect to our military activities, military training and our budget support, » Borrell noted.
Borrell said a few days ago that the Sahel remains an area of strategic interest for the European Union. »
