« German government spokesperson Wolfgang Buechner called upon Azerbaijan to resume negotiations with Armenia regarding the military operation initiated by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, in a press briefing held in Berlin on Wednesday.
« The situation is highly critical, and our apprehension grows due to the military escalation in the Karabakh conflict. We urge Azerbaijan to reengage in negotiations. The Federal Chancellor reiterated this point yesterday, stating, our aim is to return to diplomacy, seeking a peaceful and mutually agreed-upon solution for the challenges at hand, both between Armenia and within Germany, » said Buechner.
Yesterday, Azerbaijan launched a military operation in Nagorno Karabakh demanding the « total and unconditional » withdrawal of Armenian troops from this region which has been the subject of a dispute between the two countries for decades.
Armenia denounced a campaign of « ethnic cleansing » following the deaths of 25 people as a result of the Azeri offensive.
Additionally, German Federal Foreign Minister Christian Wagner reaffirmed the country’s support for Ukraine when questioned about its stance on the conflict.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Christina Routsi also provided additional insights into the ongoing Ukrainian-Russian conflict. She noted that Ukrainian soldiers in Germany are undergoing intensive training on the Leopard 1 system, and she revealed that 20 battle tanks of this type have been transferred to Ukraine.
She explained that the training’s goal is to equip Ukrainian soldiers with the necessary skills for effective combat with the equipment. She highlighted the formal transfer of the equipment to Ukraine before training and its return afterwards. Additionally, she noted a final assessment for quality before crossing the border, with any defects addressed on-site. »
