According to the head of the Odessa Regional State Administration (OVA), Oleg Kiper, two civilians were found dead and one was injured amid reported shelling.
« Unfortunately, there is a hit. Port infrastructure came under attack. A fire broke out in a non-residential high-rise in the city of Odessa. It was quickly eliminated. Also, destruction was recorded in a warehouse and one of the private houses of Odesa district, » Kiper wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the reported assault involved 12 Kalibr cruise missiles, two anti-ship Onyx missiles, and 19 « kamikaze » drones.
At the time of publication Moscow did not comment on the incident in Odessa.
However, Russian Defence Ministry reported launching ‘a group strike with long-range precision weapons and strike drones against temporary deployment sites of foreign mercenaries and sabotage groups training points of the AFU’ adding that ‘all the facilities have been neutralised’.
Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow. »
