« Rafael Grossi has been reappointed for a new 4-year term Director-General during the 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, on Monday.
« I solemnly swear to exercise in all loyalty expression and conscience functions in trusted to me as Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency to discharge these functions and to regulate my conduct with the interest of the agency only in view and not to seek or accept instructions in regard to the performance of my duties from any government or other authority external to the agency, » said Grossi in his oath.
He continued his speech by referring to IAEA’s verification activities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
« I must reiterate the significant safeguards issues remain outstanding after a number of years I also cannot but recognise that implementation the activities set out in the most recent joint statement between myself and Iran in March this year not made the progress I was hoping for, » newly-appointed IAEA Director-General concluded.
The IAEA’s board unanimously approved Grossi’s reappointment, indicating that there was no vote held, and no country voiced any opposition. The final decision is contingent upon the endorsement of the IAEA’s General Conference, an annual assembly of all member states convened in the autumn. »
