‘Steady cooperation’ with Japan and South Korea in ‘common interest’ of all parties – Chinese MOFA spox

« Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasised the importance of fostering steady cooperation between China, Japan, and South Korea during a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.
“The three parties conducted in-depth discussions on promoting the steady resumption of cooperation between China, Japan, and South Korea. It is unanimously agreed that conducting cooperation between China, Japan, and South Korea is in the common interests of the three parties, and we should work together to strengthen practical cooperation, said Wang Wenbin.
His comments followed a high-level meeting between the three nations in Seoul, where discussions revolved around revitalising cooperation and the potential resumption of a summit involving their leaders.
Furthermore, Wang Wenbin disclosed that the three nations concurred on holding a Foreign Ministers’ meeting in the coming months and maintaining communication to facilitate the early convening of a leaders’ meeting.
The spokesperson also confirmed that over 130 countries have confirmed their participation in the third Belt and Road Forum, scheduled to take place in Beijing in October, although an official date has yet to be announced.
Responding to queries about the potential attendance of Russian energy giants Gazprom and Rosneft, led by Alexei Miller and Igor Sechin, at the Belt and Road Forum, Wang Wenbin stated that China is maintaining close communication with all its partners regarding the event.
“We welcome partners who actively participate in building the Belt and Road Initiative to come to Beijing to discuss cooperation plans and development,” Wang Wenbin said.
Regarding reports of the Central American Parliament approving a special agreement for China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) to join as a permanent observer, Wang Wenbin expressed China’s high appreciation for this move.
He underscored the unwavering support of both China and the international community for the One China principle and reiterated China’s readiness to strengthen friendly cooperative relations based on this principle.
Lastly, about the Philippines Coast Guard’s removal of a 300-meter floating barrier placed by China in a contested area of the South China Sea, known as the Scarborough Shoal to the Philippines and Huangyan Island to China, Wang Wenbin cautioned the Philippines against ‘provoking or causing trouble.’
He reiterated China’s firm stance on the sovereignty and maritime rights of Huangyan Island. »
