« A 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death while travelling to school on a bus in Croydon, South London on Wednesday.
Footage shows police officers at the crime scene in Wellesley Road, near a shopping centre after the incident.
« Shortly after 8:30 this morning, we responded to a stabbing here in Wellesley Road. Our officers were on scene within two minutes of the call being received. They provided emergency first aid along with paramedics of the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, » said local police commander Andy Britton.
« Despite their efforts, a fifteen-year-old girl died at the scene. This is every parent’s worst nightmare. The officers who responded this morning, along with our emergency services colleagues are devastated at the victim’s death, » he continued.
A boy aged 17, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested shortly after the girl passed away, according to Britton.
« Within 75 minutes of the incident happening, a seventeen-year-old boy was arrested, » the police chief said. “From my initial enquiries, we believe the suspect may have known the victim. However, we are not in a position to release the victim’s identity at this time. »
Witnesses reported that the young woman was stabbed in the neck with a ’30-centimetre’ knife after she refused flowers from a boy. »
