« German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the heads of Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on Friday, ahead of the Central Asia-Germany Summit.
Scholz could be seen welcoming and shaking hands with Shavkat Mirsiyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, is also expected to attend the summit.
Germany has become the first EU country to bring the leaders of the former Soviet republics to one table, in a move that many consider as an attempt to reduce Moscow’s influence over the region. »
