« Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the European Union’s MED9 summit in Malta on Friday.
The EU’s migration issue topped the agenda, with the leaders discussing a 10-Point Plan for Lampedusa presented by von der Leyen to enable the European Union to cope with illegal migration over the Mediterranean Sea. No major breakthrough was reported at the time of publication, however.
The summit comes as the UN said more than 2,500 people have died or gone missing crossing the Mediterranean this year.
The MED9 summit was attended by the leaders of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia and Slovenia. »
