750 dervishes spin in front of iconic Hagia Sophia commemorating 750th anniversary of Sufi poet Rumi

« 750 dervishes performed the famous spinning dance in Sultanahmet Square in front of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, on Saturday, to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the Sufi poet Mawlana Jalal al-Din al-Rumi.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism organised the event with the General Directorate of Fine Arts after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared the year 2023 as the Year of Mewlana on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of his death.
Mawlana Jalal al-Din al-Rumi was a Sufi whose poems and writings, most of which were written in Persian, and some in Arabic and Turkish, widely influenced the Islamic world. »
