‘Going to be an incredible experience’ – Fans gather for NYFF premiere of animation legend Hayao Miyazaki’s latest movie

« Hundreds of anime fans eagerly lined up as the latest movie from Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki had its international premiere at the New York Film Festival (NYFF) as seen in footage filmed in in Manhattan on Sunday.
The 61st NYFF revealed that this year’s event would showcase the US premiere of Hayao Miyazaki’s newest movie, « The Boy and the Heron, » alternatively titled « Kimi-tachi wa Do Ikiru ka, » or just « How Do You Live? » This film has been chosen as an Official Spotlight Selection.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki since I was six years old. He’s always been, my favorite director. This is going to be an incredible experience,” shared one excited fan named Dereck.
“I love his movies, and I’ve been waiting here for two hours just to get a chance to see it. I hope I can make it inside,” added Andrew, another fan.
The film achieved a significant milestone by premiering on IMAX screens across Japan at the same time as its regular release on July 14. This was a groundbreaking moment as it was the first time that a Studio Ghibli movie had a simultaneous IMAX release. Furthermore, the film is available in top-notch formats such as Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema, and DTS:X, offering viewers an exceptional cinematic experience.
In Japan, the film quickly gained popularity, selling over a million tickets and earning approximately $13.2 million (11.22 million Euros) in its first three days. During the Friday-Monday long weekend (with July 17 being a holiday), it sold 1.353 million tickets and grossed 2.149 billion yen, equivalent to around $15.53 million (3.2 million Euros).
The 61st NYFF event is scheduled to run from September 29 to October 15. »
