« The leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Tino Chrupalla, was hospitalised after suffering an alleged attack on Wednesday before he was due to speak at a campaign event in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt, ahead of Sunday’s state elections in Bavaria.
Footage filmed on Thursday shows the general view of Ingolstadt hospital, as well as the Theaterplatz where Chrupalla was meant to deliver his speech.
48-year-old Chrupalla was taken to the hospital after complaining of discomfort in the arm before the event. The AfD’s office stated in a press release that Chrupalla presented severe pain and nausea, and that emergency services took him to the facility.
The party labelled the incident a ‘physical attack’ and cancelled all planned campaign events in Bavaria.
However, local media reported that police claimed no obvious injuries were apparent, and that it remained unclear whether Chrupalla had been attacked. Authorities have launched an investigation into the alleged assault. »
