« The stunning Al Wasl dome in Expo City Dubai was awarded a Guinness World Record as the world’s largest interactive dome during a spectacular public event on Thursday.
“The size of the dome is 24,038 square metres, making Expo City Dubai the new Guinness World Record title holder for the largest immersive interactive dome,” said Alwaleed Osman, an Official Adjudicator at Guinness World Records.
Al Wasl, which means ‘connection’ in Arabic, features an incredible sensory display across its vast surface and uses laser light projections and computer-generated content to provide visitors with a truly unique interactive experience.
Guests can use a tablet with augmented reality (AR) features to morph and shape the 360-degree projection with their fingertips.
“You can be the master of Al-Wasl Plaza, and it obeys you. So, people will come on stage and try on the iPad, touching the iPad in a way that the dome interacts with you,” explained Amna Abulhoul, Executive Creative Director at Expo City Dubai.
“It really interacts with what the visitor wants. This was a test of what could happen in Al-Wasl Plaza. In January, you will be able to control Al-Wasl from your phone in Al-Wasl Plaza and touch the dome, » she added.
The dome was designed by the Chicago-based company, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture and will also host live concerts and performances. »
