« Zhu Qinan, spokesperson for Hangzhou Asian Games Sport Operations Centre, announced during a press conference on Saturday in Hangzhou that at least 193 records have been broken during the tournament, including 15 world records, 28 Asian records, and 150 Asian Games records, adding that athletes from at least 36 different countries were awarded prizes.
“Since September 19, a total of 5295 competitions in 28 major events, 37 sections, and 432 minor events have been successfully completed in 54 competition venues, including the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center, basically fulfilling the solemn commitment of the Hangzhou Asian Organizing Committee to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA),” Zhu said.
Mao Genhong, Hangzhou Asian Games Chief Spokesperson, stated that, as of this Saturday’s morning, over three million tickets have been sold, with the revenue exceeding 610 million yuan ($83.39 million; €17.67 million). He continued by saying that at least 481 gold medals have been awarded so far and said that China leads the competition’s medal table ‘without any doubt’.
“Of course, it is nothing new that the Chinese team ranks first in the medal table and the number of gold medals in the Asian Games, which we have not left since 1982,” he declared.
Under the slogan ‘Heart to Heart, @Future’, the 19th Asian Games runs until October 8, spanning six Chinese cities, including Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province.
Over 12,000 athletes from a record 45 countries are competing for 481 gold medals across 40 sports. »
