Voters headed to the polls in the Tunisian constitutional referendum in Tunis on Monday. The question on the ballot is: ‘Do you support the new draft constitution for the Tunisian republic?’ The referendum is scheduled exactly a year after Tunisian President Kais Saied sacked the Prime Minister and suspended parliament. The constitutional reforms give the president increased powers over the PM and parliament, which supporters say will tackle the corruption and incompetence within the political elite. However, opposition groups claim the move is a step towards totalitarianism.
