« Hundreds of demonstrators affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami movement rallied in Islamabad on Tuesday in a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine as airstrikes continue to rain down on Gaza following a deadly Hamas attack on Israel over the weekend.
Footage shows protesters waving Pakistani and Palestinian flags as they marched through the city with banners and signs with slogans reading ‘Free Palestine’.
“This is our message to Israel, you want a war, look how an armless youth has destroyed your pride, God willing Israel will taste what the Quran has promised them,” a demonstrator said.
“No matter if the whole world supports Israel, but Allah is with Hamas, Hamas will be the victors. Believe me, in the last one hundred years they could not succeed in fully occupying Al-Quds, and nor will they in the future,” added a second.
The mass demonstration in Islamabad comes after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, firing thousands of rockets as militants broke through into Israeli territory as part of what the group described as ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’.
Israel responded with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and issued a formal declaration of war on Hamas, warning residents in Gaza to leave their homes.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant ordered a full lockdown on Gaza, with electricity, fuel, water and food cut off to the area.
Hamas said the operation was due to the long-running Israeli blockade, raids on West Bank cities and other attacks, while Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed ‘mighty vengeance’ on the group.
Figures from the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that the death toll from retaliatory strikes by the IDF in Gaza has climbed to 770 killed, with 4,000 injured. The Israeli military said that at least 900 Israelis were killed and 2,616 injured over the course of the conflict.
According to the UN, over 120,000 Palestinians have been displaced during the current fighting. »
