« Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the embassy of Israel in London on Monday as the conflict has escalated over the weekend following a surprise attack by Hamas on Israel.
Footage shows rally members gathering outside the Israeli embassy with Palestinian flags and banners, chanting slogans and burning flares.
« We came to London to protest in support of the Palestinian people because they’ve been oppressed for so long facing daily violence: children, young women, men, » said Atiqeia, one of the protesters.
The woman went on saying that in her opinion it’s not ‘too late to make peace’ between the conflicting parties.
« I think people are suffering on a daily basis and that it is important to negotiate and get to a peace settlement and find a solution. Otherwise this is an ongoing problem and the suffer continues, » concluded Atiqeia.
Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, firing thousands of rockets as militants broke through into Israeli territory as part of what the group described as ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’.
Israel responded with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and issued a formal declaration of war on Hamas, warning residents in Gaza to leave their homes.
Hamas said the operation was due to the long-running Israeli blockade, raids on West Bank cities and other attacks, while Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed ‘mighty vengeance’ on the group.
At the time of publication, over 1,100 have been reported dead across both sides in the most deadly escalation of the ongoing conflict in decades. »
