« The Congress of the International Council on Archives kicked off on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The congress, which has the motto ‘Enriching Knowledge Societies’, is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
President of the International Council on Archives (ICA)Josee Kirps in her welcome address expressed her gratitude to the organisers. « Thank you on behalf of the National Council of Archives for the warmth, openness and generosity the United Arab Emirates has shown throughout the preparation of this Congress, » she said.
According to media reports, the event has brought together archival experts and professionals as well as thought leaders from around the world to explore the possibilities of information provision and access.
Workshops are expected to be held during the Congress to provide unique insights and explore various aspects of archival work. The Congress is divided into five different themes: Peace and Tolerance; New Technologies: Electronic Records, Electronic Solutions; Sustainable Knowledge, Sustainable Planet: Archives, Records and Climate Change; Trust and Testimony; and Access and Memory. »
